Mauritius  Housing  Company  Ltd

History

Mauritius Housing Company Ltd emanates from the former Mauritius Housing Corporation, a para-statal body set up in 1963. The latter had taken over the housing loan business from the Mauritius Agricultural Bank which had been providing such loans since 1951. The Mauritius Housing Company Ltd was incorporated in 1989, to be a total solution provider in respect of housing finance requirements and to better meet the challenges posed by the market.

Experience

With more than 4 decades at the service of the nation, MHC Ltd is the only finance institution in Mauritius and Rodrigues that offers a variety of solutions with respect to the promotion of home ownership. Indeed, besides housing loans, MHC Ltd provides architectural, technical, legal, insurance services as well as deposit taking and saving schemes.

In the 1970s MHC pioneered the introduction of multi-storeyed buildings for residential purposes. Its major estates projects include Govinden Court and Clos Verger (Rose Hill) and Harbour View 1& 11 (Port Louis), and the latest being CyberVillage.

Savings Culture

In order to encourage savings for the purpose/ construction of a house, MHC introduced the Exceptional Savings Scheme in 1972 while the Plan Epargne Logement (PEL) was launched in 1988. As part of its social responsibility MHC offers Government Sponsored Loans to lower income groups since 1986. In-house ancillary services include architectural/ technical services, preparation of Fixed Charge documents as well as life assurance and building insurance.
