To date the African Union has: |
|
|
- run 7 training courses for 237 middle and senior management in housing
finance institutions (in Nairobi and Harare). Discussions are underway to
establish an African Union Training Institute in Harare
- sponsored 16 people to international and regional training courses for
housing finance
- facilitated staff exchanges among organisations regionally and
internationally
- participated in drawing up the Global Shelter Strategy through both
private and public sector initiatives
- organised and run a workshop resulting in the
Mangochi Recommendations on Shelter and Urban Development in East and
Southern Africa (Malawi, 1987)
- organised and run a workshop on
Informal Lending Organisations in Africa (Kenya, 1995)
- held meetings, seminars and workshops in Nairobi, Lagos, Windhoek,
Harare, Gaborone, Maseru, Mauritius, Cairo and Alexandria
- hosted the International Union for Housing Finance Annual General
Meeting and Conference, Malawi 1992
- facilitated the formation of national associations of housing finance
institutions in Kenya and Nigeria
- liaised with international organisations and donors negotiated capital
grants and loans on behalf of
members for specific housing projects
- provided position papers on African housing finance at various
international forums, including the Environmental Summit in Brazil in 1992
- commissioned a series of Country Position Papers on member countries
- brought out the Housing Faculty of the Wharton School Programme of the
University of Pennsylvania in August 1999
